Well... we have finally reached the end of 2020! While the pain, disappointment, and injustice we all suffered through this year will not magically disappear at 12:01 on January 1st, I remain hopeful that the lessons that we have learned this year will continue to energize us. We have A LOT of work to do! Recent research found that 1 in 5 adults most commonly reported racial discrimination when receiving health care in the United States, followed by discrimination based on educational or income level, weight, sex, and age. This disturbing reality for so many Black & Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) was captured in a viral video made by a Black woman physician who later tragically died after her COVID symptoms and pain were dismissed by her healthcare team. We can no longer continue to accept poor health outcomes and negative patient experiences caused by racism and discrimination in 2021. We must commit to changing systems and ourselves. Our work begins with equity. Thank you so much for supporting my work this year!
